4th Annual Wine Tasting Dinner
March 15, 2008
J Cuvee 20 Brut NV (Russian River Valley)
This non-vintage Brut gracefully opens up with crisp lemon peel, honeysuckle and delicate yeast aromas. Upon entry, these notes follow through to a mix of Fuji apple and grapefruit interlaced with toast, caramel and almond flavors on the mid-palate. The acidity adds just enough liveliness and the citrus zest leads to a lingering, warm pear and lush finish.
Meeker Pink Elephant Rosé (Sonoma Valley)
A blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay, medium light ruby pink in color and intensity. Fresh ripe berries, white pepper, Dry medium body--crisp acidity with soft moderate tannins, fruit, spice and mineral coast along this somewhat mid-length finish.
Miner Wild Yeast Chardonnay 2005 (Napa)
Spiced pear and floral aromas on the nose lead into the palate full of caramel, apple and melon flavors. Ripe fruit flavors and creamy, toasty oak are in balance and the finish is long and complex. This is a wine that will age gracefully over the next 8 years. The grapes are fermented using only indigenous or "wild" yeast cultures found on the skins of the grapes themselves, in the vineyards.
Old Ghost Zinfandel 2005, Klinker Brick Winery (Lodi)
Old Ghost comes from 90 plus-year-old vineyard blocks that typically produce tiny yields that are less than one ton per acre. Very keenly defined berry-like fruit gives great direction to the rich, sweetly oaked aromas of this tantalizing Zinfandel. It has admirable volume and depth. A streak of firming tannins provides a nice bit of grip.
Guenoc Sirah Port (Lake County, CA)
A brilliant deep ruby color with purple tinting. The aromas are spicy and slightly candied, with ripe black fruits. The entry is sweet, then bright and balanced with good acidity, ample fruit and a luscious smoothness, with no heat.
Wines will be available for purchase the night of the dinner
